Portable Appliance Testing is a requirement in the UK, regarding electrical safety testing procedures, where electrical appliances are checked regularly to comply with safety regulations.
Often performed alongside Portable Appliance Testing are visual inspections and verification of Grounding (Earthing) continuity.
Generally, the task is performed with an automatic tester that applies a sequence of tests to run through, one after the other. Manual portable appliance testing is completed using a collection of standardised test gear, including a high-voltage insulation tester and a low resistance ohmmeter for earth continuity.
