There are few things more modern looking than a glass dining table!
What’s more, it’s been like that for decades because style never goes out of fashion.
Glass tables can be used to create a feeling of space, they are easy to keep clean and, with state-of-the-art technology that increases strength, they are safer than ever.
Plus, as you’ll see in this blog, you can create your own unique interior design looks with printing techniques and paint.
Is Glass strong enough?
When you are thinking about your dining room furniture you will be looking at durability, style and safety.
So, how safe is toughened safety glass or as it is sometimes known, tempered glass? And the basic answer is ‘very’.
There are 2 types of safety glass. One is chemical and the other, more popular, way is by using rapid heating and cooling.
The annealed glass is heated to 620°C for a good length of time and then quickly cooled with jets of cold air. The resulting reaction inside the material creates a surface tension that holds the glass together and makes it 5 times stronger than normal glass.
It also means, if the glass shatters, it breaks into safe pieces rather than shards like ordinary glass.

A footnote here. There is a kind of glass called Toughened Laminated Glass but that is mostly used for construction.
Creating an Illusion Of Space

It probably seems a strange thing to state but having a transparent or reflective table is going to bounce the light around your dining room area.
We mentioned before that you can even add printing and paint to your table top, so have a think about designs of colours that will make the room look bigger – light creams, teals and other subtle tones.

Another way to get a little more space is to use a round table. that way you don’t have corners sticking out and you can add round backed chairs to create different dining room sets.
Premier Range have a service where you can have your glass cut to size, so don’t get stuck with anything that just not the right size.
Keep the colour coming!

The simplest way of adding colour to a dining area with a glass table was to use brightly coloured chairs. While, this is still a great way to get an original look if your table is transparent but it’s not the only way create some exciting interior design ideas.
Once again, the technology has come on so far that it’s pretty easy to have very large sheets of glass printed or painted.

So, you could match the table top colour to the walls or decor, pick something bold and eye catching or even print your own image!
Imagine having a table printed like an old viking dining area or a royal banquet – or even a huge picture of your favourite pets!
Mix it up!

You don’t have to follow convention with a glass table top, you could mix it up and use glass for the legs!
It would take a bit of thinking about but the glass would be strong enough to hold a good chunk of wood and it would still help the light travel around the room.
We wouldn’t recommend mixing glass legs and glass tops though, not unless you really know what you are doing.
