To achieve a clear opening width of 1,000mm for a single sliding door, the minimum brick-to-brick width required is 2,450mm. However, when incorporating a pocket screen into the design, this minimum width decreases to 2,250mm. This adjustment facilitates a more efficient use of space while maintaining the desired accessibility.
Bi-Parting Sliding Doors
For a pair of sliding doors with a clear opening of 1,000mm, the minimum brick-to-brick width required is 2,770mm, which reduces to 2,430mm with pocket screens. These measurements ensure that the back stile of the door remains 200mm away from the brickwork to prevent trapping hazards and comply with EN16005 regulations. Pocket screens can be installed in front of the fixed side screen to create a pocket for the door to open into, providing protection from trapping hazards and allowing the door to open fully to the walls, increasing the available clear opening by 200mm for a single door and 400mm for a pair of doors. In narrow openings where there are no obstructions, the doors can be hung on the inside face of the opening, enabling them to open over it.
