Industrial Friction Materials Ltd is a third generation family run specialist providing friction, welding, engineering and casting services. Based in Cardiff, we supply industries all over the world.

Brake relining services
Industrial Friction Materials provide a quality brake relining service for your brakes from industrial machinery and specialist or classic vehicles as well as numerous other forms of transportation. With over 40 years’ experience, very few brake reliners can draw on this level of expertise.
Brake pads
We supply a large selection of brake pads ranging from commercial, automotive, off-highway, off-road vehicles, wind turbine, & custom made to drawing specifications. We can supply OE manufacturers such as Ferodo, Mintex, EBC etc or we can manufacture brake pads to your specifications.
Brake lining & reliners
Our brake linings are made for maximum efficiency and safety for machines and vehicles from many industries. Our many decades of wide ranging experience enables us to find improvements over current performance or wear characteristics. Our brake linings are the natural choice for your vehicle or machine. We supply or reline brakes for varying applications including specialist or vintage vehicles, racing & performance vehicles, many types of commercial vehicles as well as numerous types of industrial machinery.
Friction materials
Our industrial Friction materials are built for maximum performance and are of the highest quality. We stock and supply a wide range of asbestos-free materials that include Moulded, Woven and Kevlar. Our friction materials are a key element in vehicles, machinery, numerous brake and clutch applications and play an important role in efficiency. Our raw materials and finished products are controlled by quality management systems, which have accreditation to BS EN ISO 9001:2008.
Clutch Linings
We are a long-established supplier of high quality clutch linings in various materials with a full range of sizes for all types of applications. Our range covers varying coefficients of friction and clutch linings are available either drilled or blank with or without slots. Each clutch lining that we supply is made of non-asbestos material and is manufactured with the latest technology in material formulation to improve upon the performance of the original materials.
Press brake blocks
We manufacture and supply press blocks of varying sizes and shapes for all types of press brakes (also commonly referred to as brake presses). The press blocks are machined from high quality moulded friction sheets with various materials and coefficients of friction to suit the requirements of the application.
Transmission discs
We supply a wide range of manufactured transmission discs & steel mating plates. We manufacture wet and dry friction materials such as sintered bronze, carbon, ceramic, graphite, iron, molybdenum and paper, along with steel mating plates which are used in a wide variety of heavy duty transmissions, clutch & brake applications.
Custom friction products
Our custom friction products are designed & manufactured to specification. These are made from high quality friction material sheets or by using injection moulding processes to make unique friction material shapes & designs to suit specific applications. The high quality materials we use offer higher strength & durability which outperforms our competitors giving more scope in the design phase. Our customised friction products also offer the tightest of tolerances in the industry.
Friction discs
We have all kinds of friction discs in stock including internal & external gear toothed, special customised discs and plain friction discs with or without a centre. We are also able to supply you with any disc size and when you contact our expert team, we will advise you on the best option for your applications.
Robotics
For several years we have been manufacturing friction discs which enable repair and refurbishment of gearboxes and servo-motors from Robotic devices, such as A.B.B., Kuka and Fanuc among others, which are mostly used in production environments.
Marine
Another of our achievements is to manufacture replacement friction discs and ancillary parts as a kit for Sail Drives which have increased the life span tenfold compared to the OEM standard parts. We are receiving fantastic feedback from the worldwide yachting community and word is spreading about our capability and expertise.
Our Welding & Fabrication services include MIG, TIG MMA and Gas Welding. Combining expertise and knowledge, we have a proven tack record meeting our clients fabrication requirements.
Our Precision Engineering solutions include 3 Axis CNC Milling, Bar Fed CNC Turning, conventional Machining & Tooling, surface grindign & routing and Wire Erosion of all conductive materials from Aluminium to hardened Steel.
We also provide Precision Casting right here in the UK from Aluminium and Copper based alloys and Iron and Steel. Our castinsg are manufactured to the highest standards for commercial vehicles, aircraft, rail and shiopping applications among others.
