T.G.Baker (Sound) was founded by Tom Baker in 1973 and over the last 40 years has expanded from a one-man business into a major sound and communication company that currently employs more than 65 staff across two regional offices located in Glasgow and Blackburn.
Originally based in Glasgow city centre the company experienced steady sustained growth that eventually resulted in a move to larger premises in nearby Clydebank, which now provides a home to the company head office.
Continuing business opportunities in England and Wales resulted in the acquisition of Pension Electrical and the opening of its first regional office in Manchester in 1992.
For many years the company had been supplying loudspeakers to the installation and construction industry and in 2000 acquired Premier Acoustic Ltd (www.premier-acoustic.co.uk) who were a supplier of a wide selection of good quality, high specification loudspeakers and power amplifiers that were manufactured in the far east.
The company continued to prosper and it was becoming evident that larger premises and additional staff were required. This was facilitated in 2006 by the acquisition of Romers a sound and CCTV installation company based in Blackburn, Lancashire.
The Manchester office then relocated to Blackburn and this purchase provided the company with additional key staff, larger premises, greater stock levels and a diverse client base which gave the opportunity to move into new market sectors such as CCTV, TV Distribution and Access Control.
A significant investment has been placed into these new market sectors and under the management of T.G.Baker (Sound), these areas have continued to thrive.
At the same time, our international business was also expanding with sound systems being designed and installed within transportation centres in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa LRT and the Metro in Toronto. In 2015 one of our Glasgow directors relocated to Toronto, Canada and started up a subsidiary company called T.G.Baker Americas Inc (www.tgbakeramericas.com).
