New Low Cost Integrated CMOS Linear Image Sensors
17 September 2008
Hamamatsu Photonics introduce a new range of surface mount CMOS linear image sensors. These are aimed at high volume, automated assembly applications.
The new S10226 has 1024 pixels on a 7.8 micron pitch with 125 micron pixel height. Each pixel has an aspect ratio of 16:1, which gives 16 times more light collection area compared to conventional “linear” CCDs used in consumer type scanners and barcode readers.
This provides the user with greater sensitivity with no increase in cost. The new CMOS arrays incorporate 1024 individual photodiode elements with buffer amplifier, digital shift register (multi-plexor) and signal processing circuit (correlated double sampling noise reduction circuit) all on the same “monolithic” silicon chip. These new CMOS devices also provide all the necessary clock generation functions on chip, enabling system design and implementation easier compared to traditional CCD technology.
The new S10226 is ideal for applications such as in-line product inspection, portable spectrometers, industrial process control, colour monitoring, angle measurement, medical diagnostics, distance and displacement measurement, optical encoders, blood analysers, optical scanners, point of care diagnostics, automotive sensing, water pollution analysers and many more.
