Warehouse Temperature Monitoring Solutions from Hanwell

17 December 2008

Fluctuations in temperature and humidity may have disastrous consequences if they cause medicines to become ineffective, food to spoil or result in the failure of critical equipment.

Data acquisition specialists, Hanwell Instruments, have the experience and expertise to provide managers with an accurate and workable solution for mapping and controlling their warehouse environment.

"Maintaining temperature in a small area is fairly straightforward." explains Derek Richardson, Sales Director at Hanwell. "However, when we start looking at larger areas, especially warehouses, then a variety of problems start to arise. Inconsistencies occur as racking or shelving may cause "hot spots" by obstructing air circulation, temperatures tend to be higher by heaters or lower next to dock loading bays where the doors are constantly opened and higher areas may be warmer due to the fact that hot air rises."

Hanwell Instruments provides the warehouse industry with a range of temperature and humidity sensors, transmitters and base stations for a complete warehouse monitoring and logging system. Its 4000 series of radio transmitters are ideal to enable wire-free monitoring of a site. With real-time alarm notification and the flexibility to accept data directly into a PC or Hanwell system controller, data can be analysed in real-time and historical data can also be stored for regulatory compliance.

Each transmitter unit in the Hanwell system reads its on-board sensors to provide accurate and reliable information about environmental conditions. This data is then transmitted to the Radiolog system where it is filed for analysis. With Radiolog, all key environmental functions can be managed and reported. For greater flexibility, Hanwell's Smart Receivers are integral to the system, enabling temperature and humidity to be monitored from a PC, in real-time, across wide area networks to a central location, creating exceptional flexibility.

"The position of the sensors is also vital to the accuracy of the monitoring." Derek explains further. "This is where Hanwell's experience and customer service is second to none. We will work together with our clients to help them undertake an initial mapping exercise ensuring that the sensors are placed so that the readings are meaningful and accurately reflect the environmental conditions in the warehouse."

Hanwell products are designed with calibration very much in mind. In-house or on-site temperature calibration services are offered using equipment traceable to national standards. For customers with their own in-house calibration facilities, Hanwell can provide all the necessary supplementary calibration documentation and software.
