TVS Reduce Noise and Vibration in Busy City Centre Gym

Background: Body Zone Fitness is an independent fitness facility operating within a mixed-use building in the city centre, Newcastle. The main gym has approximately 200 pieces of fitness equipment housed over 2 levels and well over 2000 active members. The landlord, Sunil Vadehra, was keen to alleviate noise and vibration disturbance (caused by weight lifting activities) to other tenants operating in this shared commercial space and turned to TVS Sports Surfaces and parent company, Total Vibrat
TVS Solution: After initial observations and onsite testing it was clear that heavy impacts from weight lifting exercises were causing disturbance to tenants occupying the basement. The issues were also apparent in the aerobic studio which was located at street level and below the main gym.An acoustic build-up of flooring materials for installation in the free weights section of the gym was specified. TVS SPORTEC Style tiles were fitted on top of acoustically engineered under-layers and this provided exercisers with a stable surface platform to perform heavy weight lifting exercises safely. This combination of materials proved to reduce both the impact shock and the noise caused by falling heavy objects such as barbells and dumbbells.
Throughout other areas of the gym TVS SPORTEC Color-15 rubber was specified as this type of gym flooring is extremely durable, tough and highly resistant to mechanical wear. It’s also low maintenance, and was available in the preferred colour choice of the customer. This rubber flooring also provides enough cushioning underfoot for exercisers to workout safely.
The Result: TVS Sports Surfaces helped Sunil by first understanding the issues he was experiencing and then providing an effective solution. As a result, the transmission of impact noise and vibration was significantly reduced and neighbouring tenants were not disturbed by the ongoing weight lifting activities taking place on the upper level. The gym floor finishes also provided safe, non-slip training surfaces to exercise on and long-term protection to the original subfloor.
