Base Structures take off at Terminal 5

Structural canopy specialists Base Structures were recently commissioned for a design and build project at the new Heathrow terminal.
The company were commissioned to design and build the canopy structure at the departures lounge resulting in a stunning entrance and world class landmark.
The canopy structure comprises of over 4000sqm of PTFE tensile fabric and several series of twisted hypar arrangement and bespoke lighting on an architectural steel frame along the terminals' concourse.
Base Structures designed, manufactured and installed all fabrics and associated fittings and installed the structural steel and bespoke lighting throughout the turnkey project.
Rachel Winterton of Base Structures spoke about the project; "The installation was a challenging undertaking and had to be completed in plenty of time for the grand opening of the terminal. Its' success made this an extremely satisfying project for all parties involved and the client is especially delighted to have this world class vision realised".
