Tesco distribution centre contract awarded to Translyft
11 May 2009
Translyft Lifting Technology has been awarded the contract to build and install 86 high bay and 20 pallet in feed lifts at the new Tesco North East Distribution Centre.
The contract for the high bay and pallet in-feed lifts - a total of 106, will be built by Translyft at the £130 million, state of the art distribution centre between May and July.
Working in partnership with Dematic, the UK teams recently travelled to the Translyft factory in Aalborgvej, Denmark to review progress and discuss some of the features required.
Translyft Managing Director George Scholes commented; "We’re delighted to be working with Dematic on this significant Tesco installation. Once again Translyft has been able to meet the exacting standards of integrating lifts into conveyor systems demanded by state-of-the-art logistics operators, and the exceptional service levels they require."
The 910,000 sq ft Tesco Teesport centre means that goods can be transported by rail rather than road. It will take more than 12,000 lorry journeys off the road each year and create over 800 jobs.
