New Prihoda fabric ducts for Captain Fawcett's Emporium
05 May 2021
Captain Fawcett marked its 10th anniversary with a museum dedicated to the barbering arts. Prihoda UK designed and supplied bespoke fabric diffusers for the museum.
Prihoda was recently involved in designing a new ventilation system for Captain Fawcett’s Emporium in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Working with JD Cooling Group, who managed the overall project, we supplied a bespoke fabric duct system for the museum area of the Emporium.Captain Fawcett is a world-renowned manufacturer of male grooming products, including moustache waxes and original fragrances. To mark the 10th anniversary of their move to the current premises, they opened Captain Fawcett’s Emporium, a barbershop museum featuring all manner of barbering tools and equipment from a bygone era. Here, visitors can find shaving mugs and brushes, safety razors and all sorts of quaint old apothecary tools neatly displayed in wooden glass-fronted cases.
Antique barber chairs and mirrors complete the old-school barbershop look. We were tasked with delivering draught-free, gentle ventilation to ensure visitor comfort and enhance their experience. The museum is located in a large unit with a mezzanine floor. In such an ample area, the new system needed to supply substantial air volumes. We designed a fabric duct system to connect to a ducted heat pump supplied by JD Cooling.
The ductwork consisted of a long header duct and two branches spanning the length of the main room. To achieve the required air distribution pattern, we used nozzles that allow the air to travel from the considerable mounting height to the occupied zone. Once there, the air can gently mix into the ambient air, maintaining a fresh and pleasant environment without excessive noise. This location is clearly a special place for Richie Finney, the founder. In these premises, he has grown the business from selling one type of handcrafted moustache wax to an extensive assortment of grooming products.
To complement the carefully curated look of the museum, he selected a custom olive green material that matches the company’s colours. We also provided our Prihoda Art service to print decorative text in vivid yellow tones, creating an exciting feature true to the décor of the Emporium. And all made in recycled material, because vintage style doesn’t need to be stuck in the past.
