Cost of wastewater treatment in food industry to be reduced

A new filter system from Croft Engineering Services is set to reduce the cost of wastewater treatment in the food processing industry.
A new filtration system from Warrington-based Croft Engineering Services, is set to dramatically reduce the cost of disposing wastewater in the food processing industry. The new Ultra Filtration Plant is ideal for the removal of emulsified Fats, Oils and Grease (F.O.G.) from wastewater produced by food processing factories.As the system is installed onsite it is a more cost effective method than taking contaminated water offsite by tanker for suitable treatment and disposal or paying large sums of money to the local water provider for putting trade effluent into the sewer. In addition, it offers many environmental benefits over a chemical treatment solution.
Neil Burns of Croft Engineering Services comments;
“The applications for this system are wide-ranging but the food processing industry is the one that stands to benefit most. This new system is the most recent in a long line of innovations from us to help companies find the best possible filter solution for their application.”
As the membrane filter captures particles 3,000x finer than the human eye can see, contaminants are filtered out creating water pure enough to meet the most stringent wastewater treatment regulations. In addition, the water can also be re-used within the factory leading to a significant reduction in the use of water resources. The system is easy to install and there are currently two types of membrane available – negative surface charge (PVDF) and neutral surface charge (PES). It can be used to separate solids from liquids and also liquids from liquids.
Looking ahead Neil Burns concludes;
“Much as we are delighted with the initial response we’ve had to the Ultra Filtration Plant, we are always striving to bring new products and innovations to the market place. We are looking forward to seeing this product establish itself as a market leader by offering a highly effective wastewater treatment solution and we are so confident that the technology will solve waste water problems in the food industry, that we are offering a free onsite demonstration service.”
