CIP updates the Construction Health & Safety and Environmental Manuals

CIP has published the December 2022 updates to the Construction Health and Safety and Environmental Manuals

The latest update to the CIP Construction Health and Safety Manual includes the following
  • A new Version 4 of the CLOCS (Construction Logistics and Community Safety) Standard that has led to a revision to Appendix 4 of the Site Logistics and Planning Section. The CLOCS Standard is the direct result of collaboration between the construction and fleet sectors to address shared issues.
  • Updates to the guidance on the use of Lorry Loaders and Swing-up stabilisers following further information from ALLMI, the Trade Association dedicated to the UK lorry loader industry.
  • A new case study from Seddon Construction has been added to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Section.
  • A new and improved Draft Drugs and Alcohol Policy from Build UK and Eurofins to replace the existing one.
  • There has been a revision to the Lifting Equipment Section following an update from the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) on Crane Notifications.
  • The latest update to the CIP Construction Environmental Manual includes the following
  • Guidance on the requirement for mitigation of nutrient (nitrates and phosphates) discharge to the water environment from development projects in certain areas.
  • The use of DNA testing when conducting survey work for the presence of certain protected species is noted and the District Level Licensing scheme in relation to the surveying for and mitigation of the presence of great crested newts during development work is described.
  • Further information on Clean Air Zones (CAZ) is added together with a new Appendix listing those towns and cities in which a CAZ is in force or is proposed
  • The arrangements for prevention of pollution arising from fire water is added to Appendix 10 Fire Prevention Plans of the Waste Section.
  • A note regarding the general exemption of commercial activity from a ‘hosepipe ban’ and a section on dealing with pollution risk from fire water run off have been added to the Water Section.
  • A description of the changes that are anticipated to be made to the ESOS.
