Natural smoke ventilation provided at new-build apartments
27 March 2023
Sanctuary Wilmslow is a Jones Homes new-build community exclusively for people over 55 or retired.
D+H UK provided a natural smoke ventilation system within the scheme‘s apartment building. Our system serves corridors / staircases over 15 zones:
• Zones 1-3: vented via head of stair NSHEVs
• Zones 4-15: vented via four smoke shafts, serving Ground to 2nd floor corridors
In the event of a fire:
- A signal from the fire alarm interface will open the smoke damper, head of shaft vent and head of stair NSHEV within the fire zone
- Smoke will be drawn up and out of the corridor and stairwell, providing clear access for firefighters
- Smoke dampers on all other floors will remain closed during this to prohibit the spread of the smoke
Smoke dampers can be independently triggered via the override panel if required.
Head of stair NSHEVs are provided with local manual call point units.
