19 November 2024
We’ve all heard of Fatigue and many people may experience it at some stage during their working lives, but don’t necessarily know exactly what it is, or what’s causing it.
Fewer people have heard of Anti-Fatigue Mats. So what exactly is fatigue, what causes it, what are Anti-Fatigue Mats and how do they work?Fatigue affects different people in different ways. Different people also have varying tolerance towards fatigue and also their threshold, the point at which something needs to be done about it.
Typical symptoms of fatigue include joint and muscle pain, lower back pain. More crucially and fatigue can lead to poor blood circulation, restricting oxygen flow around the body.
Standing for long periods of time is one of the most common causes of fatigue in the workplace with the main impact of stress on the body potentially leading to mental health as well as long term health issues.
How do Anti-Fatigue Mats work?
Anti-Fatigue Mats work by encouraging weight-shifting that forces the foot and leg muscles to keep moving, allowing for better blood circulation while standing at workstations and machinery. Even small movements and changes in position reduce muscle tension and joint pressure, ultimately improving blood circulation and oxygen distribution around the body.
Other benefits include, particularly on cold concrete flooring, Anti-Fatigue Mats provide an insulated surface to stand on which helps retain body heat that would otherwise be lost through the feet. Ultimately productivity is increased, reduced slip hazards and improved posture.
