Movember partnership to support men's hygiene & health

20 November 2024

NI Washrooms & cancer focus NI team up for #Boysneedbins

This Movember, NI Washrooms is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Cancer Focus NI! Together, they’re championing the #boysneedbins campaign to address a pressing issue: the need for hygiene bins in male toilets for the disposal of incontinence products.

Why #boysneedbins?
While UK legislation mandates that female toilets provide sanitary disposal bins, there’s no such requirement for men’s washrooms! Yet, 1 in 3 men over the age of 65 experience incontinence, often as a result of prostate cancer—a condition affecting almost 500,000 men across the UK .  Without proper disposal options, men are left with difficult choices: using disabled toilets, leaving waste in standard bins, or even taking it home.

The #boysneedbins campaign is here to change that!
NI Washrooms has launched a Male Hygiene Bin specifically for male toilets, providing a safe, discreet, and dignified disposal solution.

By supporting the #boysneedbins campaign, businesses will:
•    Help men in need by providing hygienic disposal options
•    Raise awareness and reduce stigma around incontinence issues
•    Support Cancer Focus NI's vital work, including counselling and support groups for men with prostate cancer
100% of customer charges for these bins will go directly to Cancer Focus NI (excluding VAT)*. NI Washrooms is covering all costs for the marketing, bin provision, servicing, and disposal.

BE PROSTATE CANCER AWARE
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide , with certain groups facing higher risk:
•    Black men and men with a family history (father or brother with prostate cancer) are 2.5x more likely to develop the disease.

Signs and Symptoms to Watch For:
•    Frequent urination, especially at night
•    Difficulty starting or holding back urine
•    Weak or interrupted urine flow
•    Painful or burning urination
•    Challenges with erections
•    Painful ejaculation
•    Blood in urine or semen
•    Persistent pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs

Even if these symptoms don’t always indicate prostate cancer, men are encouraged to consult their GP if concerned. Early detection saves lives!
