The right light for your bathroom
12 April 2010
Lighting can make or break a room and these days people are are putting more thought into it.
Although more and more rooms are subject to thought concerning lighting, the bathroom still seems forgotten and neglected. From the ceilings of bathrooms across the country hang solitary, garish bulbs designed with nothing but practicality in mind, lacking any sense of style. Should you be planning to rebuild or remodel your bathroom anytime soon, do not pass up the opportunity to alter the lighting, as it can make a world of difference to your bathroom.Light is a powerful tool, and can have a huge effect on the atmosphere of your bathroom. Light can make small bathrooms seem more spacious, can compensate for small windows, can make a bath more relaxing and more. You should always consider what light your bathroom’s window affords. The more light it lets in, the more spacious your bathroom will feel. But do not tear down your blinds just yet. Remember that there is nothing more relaxing than having a dimly lit bath. The best bathroom lighting is versatile, and this applies to the window as well. Most blinds will allow for near total darkness when drawn and total light when up. Versatility also applies to your bathroom’s artificial lighting. A dimmer switch can maintain the practicality of bright bathroom lights while allowing for a relaxing bath in dim lighting, and is a must have for any stylish bathroom.
Position is also important when considering bathroom light. When you are tending to your appearance in the mirror, you might not realize how much your image is affected by the light of the room. The classic approach to bathroom lighting, a bulb hanging from the ceiling, will cast shadows across your face, making shaving or applying beauty products all the more difficult. The best method of facial illumination is to have a light on either side of your mirror, ensuring that no shadows will be cast on your face. Should your bathroom be large enough to install spotlights on the floor, walls or ceiling, these will greatly increase the atmosphere of your bathroom too, as long as some thought is put into their positioning. Lighting can often affect a room more than any other single aspect, and the benefits of putting a little consideration and effort into the lighting will be immediately apparent.
Once you have the right lighting, don't skimp on the light switches that will give your bathroom that added touch of class.
