Leading door manufacturer and supplier Kaba Door Systems, has provided automatic sliding doors at Headington School, Oxford.
Working with Kingerlee Construction, Kaba installed two bi-parting sliding door systems and a telescopic sliding door to a new extension at the prestigious school. The two sets of 6 metre wide Bi-parting sliding doors form the main entrance to the new music room building, the outer door linking into the existing access control and computer systems to ensure the doors can be continually monitored. The inner door has sensor activation and leads through to the main building.
Kaba also installed a 5 metre wide telescopic door which leads through to an open air amphitheatre. All the doors have been fitted with Pilkington K glass and are controlled by the industry unique Kaba SLX system. The SLX sliding door is a technologically advanced system. Controlled by an intelligent Communications Bus which continually monitors the safety systems and installed with a key pad programme controller, the SLX is safe reliable and extremely easy to operate.
Founded in 1915, Headington School, Oxford is an independent boarding and day school for 1000 girls aged 3–18. Set in 23 acres of playing fields and gardens just a mile from central Oxford, Headington is a school with an international outlook, a well-established place in the UK’s academic ‘First Division’ and a real commitment to meeting the needs of each individual pupil.
Michael Clarkson (Mr), Bursar of Headington School said “The Kaba doors were a key feature of the Music School for both aesthetic and practical reasons. We have used these doors to draw light into the building as well as to create a sense of space – this is particularly true of the telescopic door that connects the main teaching room to the external amphitheatre.
We are also very pleased with the quality of the doors and the technical solution used to control access as together these will ensure that we will have few maintenance problems in the future. Kaba, working with Kingerlee Construction, has provided an excellent solution to our needs.”
Sam Brown, Kingerlee Construction’s Contracts Manager said "Kaba were a very proactive and cooperative subcontractor to work with. ”
