Mosedale Gillatt Architects build on success with 4 Lord Mayors' awards

Leading North East architectural firm, Mosedale Gillatt Architects (MGA), has recently been awarded four of the six Lord Mayor’s Design Awards, a biennial awards scheme designed to encourage, promote and publicise the best in architecture and environmental

The ceremony, which took place on Friday 30th November, saw MGA win awards for the following projects: Woods Pottery – workshops, workspace and studios housed in a conservation area (Conservation/Refurbishment Award); Grosvenor Court – a development of sixteen new build contemporary apartments in Jesmond, Newcastle (Housing Award) and Northern Print – art gallery and studios (Small Scale Award). The firm also won the Lord Mayor’s Special Regeneration Award for the collective contribution that Northern Print and Woods Pottery have made to the Ouseburn area, Newcastle’s thriving cultural quarter. MGA Director, Tim Mosedale, is delighted with the outcome:

“To win one of the Lord Mayor’s Awards is a great achievement – but winning four is absolutely fantastic, and we were thrilled when the Council informed us of the good news. It’s very satisfying to see the projects we’ve worked on have made such a difference, and we’re looking forward to playing a part in many more key developments in the future.”

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Peter Arnold said:  ”With strong competition from internationally renowned practices, the 2007 Lord Mayor Design Awards are an acknowledgement and celebration of the developments which have taken place in the city over the last two years.  All the winners should be congratulated for succeeding in adding a vibrancy and vitality to the city making Newcastle a more attractive city for us all.’’

MGA was established in 1995 and is renowned for its innovative and bespoke projects across the residential, arts, commercial, community, regeneration and historic sectors. In the spirit of creativity, the company also enjoys working with professional artists as part of its design process and currently takes part in the Arts Council England, North East Artist Placement programme. In addition, MGA has actually utilised the space it created at Northern Print with an exhibition to celebrate ten years of best projects, through collaborations with photographic and animation artists.
