Wireless CCTV for British Library
11 March 2011
The security problems encountered by libraries, museums, heritage sites and art galleries with regard to monitoring the visiting public and protecting the exhibits can be challenging. This can be exacerbated by the listed status or unusual design of the property.
These issues were typical of those faced by the British Library who contacted ClearView Communications and asked them to provide the companys' free security risk assessment and analysis. ClearView have over ten years experience in providing “technology led” solutions to the every day problems that can be encountered when meeting the security needs of organisations.After an extensive site survey, ClearView's recommendation was to utilise the latest in digital wireless cctv technology networked with an IP based recording system. This would not only provide the necessary level of security needed to monitor the public and protect the exhibits, but equally important, reduce the detrimental effect to the building’s aesthetics if a conventional wired/cabled system had been installed.
Another important benefit of choosing a wireless system is the freedom it gives to enable cameras to be quickly and easily relocated to monitor new exhibitions and different viewing/access points.
British Library Facilities Manager, Mike Batchelor;
“We were happy to embrace the technologically advanced solution designed by ClearView Communications. The system was installed without disruption and has already proved to be an ideal solution to the problems we were
encountering.”
The project clearly shows the technical and design abilities that ClearView possess. By utilising a wireless CCTV system to reduce cabling and associated costs, plus the latest in IP recording technology, a system was
provided that is not only reliable but user-friendly and future-proof.
