Swish Continues to Improve Environmental Performance
03 May 2011
Swish Building Products has reported an impressive 8.5% reduction in the amount of CO2 its delivery trucks created per tonne of product.
Swish, who manufacture fascias, cladding and gutter systems, say that clever load planning, regular vehicle servicing and driver training have helped.Richard Lacey, Swish Transport Manager, said, “2010 was a tough year and as we all know transport costs aren’t improving in 2011. That’s why we’re doing all we can to keep our costs down.
We’ve got clever planning software in the office, all our drivers have been through training to sharpen up their thinking about economy, we get the trucks in for tuning and servicing come what may and we can see now that all the work is paying off.”
The company reports other environmental and efficiency successes during its fourth year under ISO14001 certification. On top of its diesel savings, electricity and water consumption has been cut and it sent a third less waste of any kind to landfill. Since gaining ISO14001 Swish has reduced the amount of waste which cannot be recycled on site by 72%.
“There’s no doubt that ISO14001 has made us greener and more competitive at the same time” says Richard, “But you can’t stand still. We’ve got a new fleet of ultra efficient Euro5 compliant trucks being delivered soon and that’ll help towards this year’s targets.”
Swish is part of the Epwin Group of companies.
