Sustainable Options Win Environment Agency Contract
16 June 2011
The problem of rotting fences at an Environment Agency pumping station, has resulted in a major deal for Leeds recycling specialist, Sustainable Options.
Wooden fencing around the semi rural West Sedgmoor Pumping Station, which is about 10 miles from Taunton in Somerset, has been failing because of the damp environment in which it has to exist. But now around 200 metres of the pumping station's perimeter fencing is set to be replaced with 100% recycled plastic fencing and posts from Sustainable Options in Riverside Place, Leeds.
Rosanne Fry, from the Environment Agency's Technical Support Department, said: “The station is used to evacuate flood water and drain moorland for farming.
“Obviously it is very wet which means fencing surrounding the station is under threat of rotting. We began a search on the Internet for a more sustainable solution and found Sustainable Options after punching in 'plastic fencing' to the Google search string.
“We had not come across the Leeds firm before but were suitably impressed enough to place a 200 metre order for recycled plastic posts and rail fencing, which are currently being erected.”
Mark Thompson, UK Sales Manager with Sustainable Options, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Environment Agency which is a major breakthrough for us.
“Our product is perfect for resolving their problem because our recycled plastic lasts 5 times longer than wooden fencing, and is water, chemical and vandal proof.
