Something fishy about FM mezzanine floor installation
05 August 2011
FM Nicholson has recently installed a 1300 square foot mezzanine floor in an industrial unit, above a services block and fish tanks containing expensive Koi.
The Koi tanks could not be emptied or moved during installation and particular care had to be taken to ensure that nothing fell into the tanks. Site specific risk assessments and method statements were formulated and agreed upon prior to installation. The offices also were occupied and only had to vacate for short periods whilst installation was directly overhead. With a span of 7 metres and a loading of 100 lbs/sq.ft. the beams had to be carefully raised over the offices, tanks and associated lighting, which also remained in place. The flooring had to be moisture resistant with foil backed boards to reflect the light, and seamlessly integrate with an existing floor.
The lighting containment had to be disconnected from the existing roof supports and reconnected to specific beam sections after installation without loss of power.
The instalation was another example of FM Nicholson working together with clients to ensure continuity of operations without interruption of normal activities.
