Silicone Rubber: Why we use it
27 October 2011
Silicone rubber has all the qualities needed for Tenura daily living aids.
Silicone rubber, is a rubber type material, composed of silicone, which is a polymer ( a large molecule composed of repeating structural units. ) containing silicon together with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The highest quality silicone rubber is non-reactive, stable and resistant to extreme environments and temperatures from -55°C to +300°C and will still keep it’s useful properties.
Due to the properties stated and the simplicity of its manufacturing and shaping, Tenura uses this material to produce its main range of daily living aids, making them conveniently available to use in domestic as well as clinical environments.
Some silicone rubber products contain fillers to reduce cost, but may stop the product being chemically inert. Tenura manufacture them without fillers to keep them chemically inert, and therefore non toxic.
