Habiatron Cables from Habia Cable completes Slovakian Nuclear Power Station

160 kms of Habia Cable safety cable is to be delivered to the Mochovce nuclear power station in Slovakia in the spring of 2014.

The cable was selected for its low weight and size, advanced technology and extreme safety classification and the added bonus of a fast delivery time.

Construction of the Slovakian Mochovce nuclear power plant started in the early 1980s with Soviet reactors, but was not completed for various reasons. Work on reactors 3 and 4 resumed only a few years ago, and the plan is to have both in operation during 2015. The nuclear power industry is subject to rigorous safety regulations and the demands on all equipment involved in the operation of nuclear power plants are extremely high.

30 Years of Experience

A competing cable manufacturer was initially awarded the contract to deliver cables to the project, but at a later stage these cables turned out to be too heavy and bulky, whereupon Habia Cable was contacted in the autumn in 2013. Habia Cable has been producing nuclear power cables for almost 30 years and has a high level of expertise in this area. Our Habiatron cable  range is the advanced cable solution we offer that is specially adapted for applications in the nuclear power industry. Habiatron cable is LSZH-classified, which means that it produces very little smoke in the event of a fire and is completely halogen-free.

"It turned out that the solution we could deliver, with a weight and volume saving exceeding 30 %, suited the Mochovce reactors'' needs perfectly," says Micael Lindberg, Vice President, Nuclear, at Habia Cable.

Fast Production Processes

The fact that Habia Cable could start production quickly was naturally also a great advantage for the customer. By the end of April 2014, all cables are to be delivered in full. In total this will be 160 kms of cable in 25 variants. Habiatron cables are used for instrumentation and control systems, for example, for measuring instruments, guides, valves, and pumps.

Collective Expertise

Habia Cable is involved in many nuclear power programs across the world and all its expertise in the field of nuclear power is brought together in the Nuclear division. The production and testing of all nuclear power cables is subject to very high safety standards and takes place in Söderfors in the province of Uppland in Sweden. A major part of the process is the documentation required for compliance with international standards.

"We are very pleased that we have been able to meet the customer''s high demands and also have been able to deliver all products in a short time. Habiatron''s properties are unique and this successful cooperation opens up more opportunities for us in the future", says Micael Lindberg.
