Air Conditioning was never designed to cool the air

Unlikely as this sounds it is perfectly true. AC was developed to extract moisture from the air in a printer’s workshop in order to dry the paper more quickly.

Developed in 1902 for a Litho printer in New York it removed moisture from the air and thus dried dampness from the paper much faster than it would have dried naturally.

It is this ability to remove moisture from air that makes it so invaluable for demisting glassware in the car interior. For the fastest effect use the AC together with the heating (turn both on together) and direct fresh air towards the windscreen. Now you should be able to see where you are going.

Also useful for cooling in summer but now turn the heating off.
