Blooming partnership creates flower show sculpture

A partnership between two companies has been blooming after they created a flower show sculpture together.

When the team at Southport Gate Company was asked to manufacture a steel flowerpot tree standing nearly four metres high, they brought in the experts at Merseyside Galvanizing to finish off the creation.

The project was completed for the Southport Flower Show and included a base, central post and four rings which slotted on to the main stem. Weighing almost 220 kilograms in total, the circular hollow pieces were galvanized by the team at Merseyside before the structure was put together ahead of the show, which featured amateur growers, show gardens, plant societies and a grand floral marquee.

Originally held in 1924 by the local council, the four-day event which attracts in excess of 80,000 visitors annually has been operated by the Southport Flower Show company, a registered charity, since 1986.

Kate Turner, draughtswoman for Southport Gate Company − which specialises in designing, manufacturing and installing bespoke steel products, said: “We have been working with Merseyside Galvanizing for over ten years now and get on extremely well with the team which provides a great service. We also worked on a project for the 2014 show producing the entrance arch, using circular hollow sections with all components being sent to Merseyside to be galvanized.”

Merseyside Galvanizing’s Sales Manager Richard Smetham said: “It was great to once again work with Southport Gate Company on a creation for the flower show, and equally fantastic to see the finished sculpture in situ at the show. We look forward to working with them again in the future.
