Sewage Pumping Station Selection and Installation
When choosing or specifying a sewage pumping station it can seem a daunting task. In order to demystify the process here is an overview of some of the key points. Remember, however challenging your pumping application Carter Pumps are always on hand to ensure the very best product is selected.
SelectionIn order for us to select the correct sewage or storm water pump station we need the following information.
A − Static rise from cover level at the pumping station to the point of discharge
B − Depth of proposed packaged pumping station
C − Distance the effluent is being pumped
D − Diameter and material of the rising main
E − Electrical supply available
Additionally, it is helpful to know the nature of the application. Certain establishments such as care homes, schools and social housing can pose challenges for pump stations. We will always select pumps that we believe offer the best resilience to those challenges.
Ordering
As well as standard sized, packaged sewage pumping stations, we offer bespoke GRP chambers to precisely match your particular application.
The positions of the inlet(s), vent, duct and discharge can all be specified.
When considering dimensions A and B (i.e. the volume of the chamber) it is important to note that Building Regulations 2002 Part H1 state a pump chamber should be sized to contain 24 hours inflow. The Regulations also state that the minimum daily discharge of foul drainage should be taken as 150 litres per head per day for domestic use. It is important you check the capacity of the station is large enough to ensure compliance.
Larger tanks are available at extra cost.

To have a constant rise from pump station to discharge point.
Trench depth, bedding and back fill to be as per Building Regulations 2002 Part H1
B − PUMP STATION
To be installed as per manufacturers instructions.

D − DUCT
110mm minimum diameter.
To run in a straight line from pump station to panel location.
Rise to vertical by slow swept bend.
To be left with nylon draw cord in place.
