Diamond Floor Chasing Norwich Airport
Drill Masters Ltd were contracted by the Hurst Group to undertake diamond floor chasing Norwich Airport.
This required the diamond cutting and breaking out of a number of floor chases and electrical boxes for display cabinets in the refurbished World Duty Free store on the air side of Norwich International Airport.
Due to the sensitivity of the project these works had to be carried out overnight and required all operatives and equipment to pass through Airport security screening. Due to the refurbishment nature of the project these works were also time critical so had to be carried out in minimal time with minimal disruption to other trades and operations in what was a tight timescale to enable the store to be back operating in the shortest possible time.
The floor was made up of 20mm thick ceramic floor tiles laid directly on to a dense concrete floor slab. To achieve the required depth of 50mm for the channels and 75mm for the floor boxes Drill Masters Ltd utilised the Hilti DC-SE 20 diamond slitting machine connected to a Dust Control DC2900c dust extractor unit. In total about 50LM of chases were cut and broken out and 25 No electrical boxes were formed. These were all broken out to the desired depth to enable the electrical conduit and sockets to be positioned for the new display cabinets and shelving.
