Backscatter X-Ray Technology
Euroteck Systems UK have recently been appointed the UK and European distributor for Nucsafe Scatter X-Ray Imaging (SXI) systems.
Nucsafe/SXI specializes in providing high fidelity images for the Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and Security markets. Unlike traditional transmission X-Ray imaging which requires access to both sides of the specimen, Backscatter X-Ray imaging or sometimes known as Compton scattering allows for single-sided X-Ray imaging. This opens a variety of applications that were previously unable to be imaged properly.Backscatter X-Ray systems are uniquely engineered to identify sub-millimetre cracks and flaws within multilayer materials, thus outperforming competitors in image quality and resolution.
Applications of the backscatter system include: Flaw Detection, FOD Inspection, Material Inspection and Security Applications in Composite materials and Aluminium layered structures. The resolution of the SXI equipment outperforms that of traditional Thermography or Ultrasonic Squirter systems.
Ian Winstanley − Sales Director at Euroteck Systems said “Having recently spent a week at the Nucsafe facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee undergoing SXI product training, I’m very excited about what back scatter radiography can offer our aerospace customers. I had plenty of opportunity to use the technology on a number of different materials, notably GFRP, Carbon Fibre Composites, water ingress in honeycomb structures, FOD and Aluminium structures.
One significant advantage of SXI is that the equipment doesn’t need to be located in an X-Ray exposure bay. Because of the highly collimated X-Ray beam, the safe exclusion zone is a matter of a few metres, so the SXI equipment can be safely located on the shop floor. This potentially can save a customer the need to build a dedicated X-Ray bay costing +£250k for a large 225kV rated room, and allows work to be performed in close proximity to the SXI equipment”.
Lester Sideropolous − Chief Operating Officer at Nucsafe said “We are delighted to be working with Euroteck Systems. Their business model works well with our plans for expansion in other countries. With a number of SXI systems already sold to US customers, notably NASA and Boeing, we are looking forward to generating additional sales of SXI systems in the UK and Europe with the Euroteck team.”
Euroteck Systems are planning to have 225kV SXI demonstration equipment in their Tamworth facility in Q4-2018. Interested companies in assessing SXI technology are welcome to send samples to Euroteck for a free consultation.
