Heald''s Matador Protects Popular Street in South Shields

We are proud to announce the recent installation of our award-winning sliding bollard system, the Matador 4, in South Shields.

The Matador is securing one of the town centre’s prominent shopping and leisure areas, Ocean Road which has been subject to a transformational regeneration scheme.

The sliding bollard system has been installed to aid with the traffic regulations order within the town centre and to enhance public safety. The bollards will stop unwanted vehicles from entering, but will also allow access to vehicles when required, by the two central bollards moving to the side.

Mark Gibson, Regeneration Programme Coordinator of South Tyneside Council, said: “South Tyneside Council is investing significantly in South Shields Town Centre through the £100m ‘South Shields 365’ regeneration programme. The installation of the bollards helps manage vehicle movements and protects the pedestrianised core providing an enhanced visitor experience."
