Heightsafe deliver superior solutions for Salford Quays development
The Client - John Graham Construction have been trading for over 200 years. The company has grown steadily and significantly to become a leading player in construction throughout the UK and Ireland.
The BriefHeightsafe were approached by Graham Construction to design a bespoke solution that consisted of fall protection and rope access systems for the PRS residential development, designed by Sheppard Robson Architects at Erie Basin, Salford Quays. The structure consisted of two, fifteen storey apartment blocks including 270 mixed residential suites and communal facilities such as a gym.
Salford Quays has been transformed in recent years as part of one of the most ambitious regeneration projects in the UK. This contemporary waterfront location is multifaceted, incorporating a comprehensive selection of spectacular attractions. The development was the latest of several projects that Heightsafe have collaborated on within this vibrant location.
The Solution
To ensure operative safety at roof level of both towers, Heightsafe’s specialist team first installed collective edge protection in the form of a staggering 266 meters of guardrail. In areas where this solution was not appropriate, four market-leading, horizontal safety lines were specified to ensure personal fall protection was optimum.
Cleaning and general fabric maintenance of the façade was planned to be undertaken via rope access. Accordingly, rope access systems including 78 abseil anchors that were configured for use as davit posts together with two davit arms were supplied and installed to allow the desired and most cost effective method of façade maintenance.
The Outcome
Heightsafe’s team of abseiling operatives later performed the first drop from the roof level utilising the newly installed equipment to conduct an intensive end of building clean. This ensured that the finished development was presented to the highest quality possible, emulating the original conceptual visions of the architect.
Graham construction were incredibly impressed with the quality of the whole installation as well as the experience and skills demonstrated by multiple divisions of Heightsafe they liaised with during the project.
We are proud to communicate this case study out to the industry as it substantiates our ability to coordinate a number of different solutions for our clients into a bespoke package. Alternatively, these services may have have been subcontracted to multiple companies, and defining Heightsafe’s unique positioning in the market.
