EN1090: it’s essential

Compliance with EN1090 guarantees structural safety. And there are commercial advantages: efficiency, cost control and fit-for-purpose fabrication. EN1090 regulates the fabrication and assembly of steel and aluminium structures to prevent collapse resulting in harm.

Does EN1090 apply to you?

EN1090 cannot be applied retrospectively. Be clear from the outset if your structure falls into an execution class. You must employ an approved fabrication specialist to carry out the work.
There are two parts:

Execution class of the product based on risk of harm: a thorough assessment can help you decide which class applies (there are four)
CE Marking of steel and aluminium must comply at every stage of production: this is the manufacturer’s declaration that all products meet relevant European directives’ requirements.

Focus on quality control

Factory Production Control covers all elements of the production process. In addition, welding has its own quality control system (EN ISO 3834) to ensure the integrity of the structure’s load-bearing features.

Follow the process, focus on compliance and quality at every stage and you can’t go wrong.

EN1090: traceability equals peace of mind

Compliance and independent verification of your work − from procurement to final inspection and testing − affords peace of mind to everyone.

Certification provides full traceability. There are two certificates which apply and all paperwork must be linked a specific job:

The Certificate of Conformity certifying all products meet required standards, issued by an authorised supplier

The Mill Test Certificate, describing materials in more depth e.g. year of manufacture.

Finally, the Declaration of Performance certifies the structure’s fabrication complies with EN1090. The customer must have access to all documents as detailed in the regulation

Ignorance can be fatal so educating yourself on the importance of EN1090 is essential. We can help. Find out more today.
