YouTube Monetization: How does it work?

Are you new to YouTube monetization? Do you want to find out how to earn money through your videos? In this blog, we’ll explain to you what YouTube Monetization is and how it works.

What is Youtube Monetization?

YouTube Monetization is the ability to make money out of your YouTube videos by allowing ads on them. This can work in your favour, but it can also work against you. For example, if you use YouTube for your business and you turn on monetization, your competitor is able to put an add on your video. This can harm your business. YouTube Monetization

How does Monetization Work?

Last year, YouTube has made some new standards for monetization which makes it harder for people to do this. But don’t worry, it’s not impossible. To set up monetization for your channel, you will have to join the YouTube Partner Program and meet their requirements. Here are the requirements you have to meet to be able to monetize your videos:

Follow all the YouTube Partner Policies
Live in a region or country where the YouTube Partner Program is available
You have more than 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months
Have more than a 1,000 subscribers
Have a linked Google AdSense account

Once you’ve met these requirements, you simply have to enable monetization on your videos to start earning money. In the end, the money you will earn depends on how many people watch your channel. People with the most views will earn the most money. YouTube can then place ads on your video if they fit. You can enable or disable this per video as you like. Monetization

Ways to Earn Revenue

There are multiple ways to earn money through your channel. Here are some ways you can earn revenue that you need to know of.
Advertising Revenue:

This is the most common form to earn money through YouTube. You’ll split the revenue with YouTube (most of the time the creator gets 55%) on pre-roll, mid-roll, end-roll and overlay ads.

− Pre-Roll:

Pre-Roll ads are the ads you see before watching the YouTube video. Here is an example:

− Mid-Roll:

Mid-roll ads are ads that play during the video. These ads will interrupt the video you are watching. Here is an example:

− End-Roll:

End-Roll ads are ads you see after watching a video. These ads look the same as Pre-Roll ads.

− Overlay ads:

Overlay ads are also ads you will see during the video. However, these ads will not interrupt the video, but just pop up next to your video or on the bottom of your video. Here is an example:

Channel Memberships:

Subscribers can choose to pay a monthly membership to get access to exclusive content and get certain perks.

Merchandise:

Subscribers can purchase merchandise directly on YouTube.
Super Chat:

Subscribers can pay to get their comments featured in the comment section.

How to Win Advertisers

If your YouTube video is advertiser-friendly, advertisers are more likely to show an ad on your video. Also, if the content you’re posting isn’t fully yours, you have to get full legal permission to post it. Your audio has to have proper identification for the audio and videos on your videos, also including commercial rights to both parties. Also, your video content must comply with the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. If your video doesn’t match these things, you’re less likely to get advertisers on your video. Advertising As you can see, there is a lot that needs to be done before you can start earning money on YouTube, but it’s not impossible. You have to decide if YouTube advertising is right for you depending on what your purpose with your YouTube channel is. Is it worth the risk to put ads on your business videos if your competitor can put an ad on your video? That’s something you will need to question yourself.
