Adaptability key to J&J success

On their 125th anniversary, Johnsen and Jorgensen give an upbeat message to industry.

Johnsen and Jorgensen are one of the packaging industrys'' most established companies. Now celebrates 125 years, the company has firmly attributed its longevity to market adaptability and believes its success offers a model for the sector as a whole.

Established in 1884 by two young Norwegians who began importing an unlikely combination of glass bottles and polar bear skins into London, Johnsen and Jorgensen has always remained true to that tradition of product diversity as it has grown into one of the UK’s leading packaging specialists.

Today the business continues to source and supply an extensive portfolio of packaging products across a range of key markets including food and drink, personal care and pharmaceutical and the industrial and chemical sector. It believes that its ability to anticipate and quickly adapt to market demand has not just sustained it through the recent recession, but been its blueprint for success for well over a century

Sales Director, Jon Wear said;

“The secret of our success has been the ability to constantly identify and develop new market opportunities and distinctive packaging materials, whilst also ensuring we maintain and foster excellent relationships with our suppliers. We have developed an extensive supplier network across the UK and Europe as well as new emerging suppliers further afield in, for example, India, China and Sri Lanka. We are always open to new product innovation and design suggestions and maintain constant two-way dialogue with both suppliers and our clients. In a competitive marketplace, customers need to know they can rely on you to source an ongoing supply of exciting product designs and suppliers must trust you to come up with new markets and applications for their products.”

Two of Johnsen and Jorgensens'' most significant contracts in recent months have been in the vitamin market supplying a new range of granule jars, and in the drinks sector supplying an exciting miniature glass bottle collection for spirits.  As well as underlining the diversity of applications, both orders comprise high quality products, in a wide range of options and at a competitive price, helping to deliver significant business growth for the company in the second half of this year.

Jon Wear has worked at Johnsen and Jorgensen since 1991. Reflecting on the 125th anniversary he offered a very positive outlook not just on the state of his own company but also the broader marketplace:

“125 years in business is a fantastic landmark for any company and throughout our offices in Dartford, Manchester and Glasgow we are all very proud of our history and pedigree. But perhaps more importantly, the range of potential applications and the quality of products coming through, make us very optimistic about our company’s future in the packaging industry. Spotting market trends and developing the opportunity is what has underpinned Johnsen and Jorgensen’s successful growth down the years and, provided we never lose sight of that key objective, we intend to stay at the forefront of this industry for a lot longer yet.”
