Can you use AI without Automation?

AI is all over the media, with some saying AI can do everything. Is that true?

How can a business use AI?
Putting a question into ChatGPT or asking Dall-E to generate an image, is interesting but not a business process.

The wide range of “Cheat Sheets” available indicates that getting good results from AI tools such as ChatGPT is not that simple, not to mention the legal ownership aspects.

An established business operates many different processes. How can they benefit from AI?

A person with some training and knowledge could engage AI to get a draft of a social media blog post or a draft of a new policy. Would such activities have much impact on business processes?

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is software technology that is used to automate manual tasks a person would perform on a computer.

An RPA software “Robot” is able to simulate the human activity of reading from a computer screen, typing on the keyboard, moving and clicking a mouse.

RPA could be used to automate the usage of AI rather than using manual effort.
By building the “Best Practice” and “Cheat Sheet” knowledge into the RPA automation the quality of the AI response will be consistent.

Some established examples include:
• Invoice data extraction for loading into accounts payable
• Purchase order data extraction for creation of orders in ERP
• Receipt data extraction for employee expenses
• Chatbots on websites accessing core systems
• Chatbots to assist call centre staff by assembling customer information
• Transcribing audio from meetings
• Triage and automating responses to customer emails
• Translating documents

The usage of AI and Automation is about enabling people to be more effective and deliver better productivity.
