What is a drum pump?
Drum pumps, also known as barrel pumps or oil drum pumps, are specifically engineered for the seamless transfer of fluids from drums, barrels, or IBCs.
They find common application in various industrial settings such as laboratories, production facilities, and distribution centres. With unmatched expertise in drum pump design, Flux Pumps have revolutionised the industry for over seven decades. We are the pioneering company that introduced electrically operated drum pumps worldwide.
Designed with portability in mind, our pumps can be easily inserted into the openings of drums, barrels, or IBCs. Characterised by their elongated and slender shape, our pumps are designed to reach the bottom of the vessels and fit into narrow container openings. Drum pumps are used to transfer diverse fluids and typically include a drive motor or hand-operated mechanism, a rigid pump tube (referred to as a pipe, lance, wand, or stick), a hose assembly, and a dispensing nozzle or spout.
Flux pumps offer different diameter pump tubes, ranging from 25mm to 53mm, to match the various container sizes. Smaller diameter pumps delivering lower flow rates are suitable for emptying small containers and carboys (typically 20-70 litres). Larger diameter pumps, on the other hand, are preferred for larger containers, especially when higher flow rates or delivery pressures are essential.
The liquid is pumped from the bottom of the drum via the pump tube. Our pumps come in positive displacement or centrifugal designs, subject to the specific type and model.
Our pumps offer efficient and safe liquid transfer, minimizing the risk of spills or leaks and allowing the control of the flowrate during dispensing. Choosing the right pump involves considerations of fluid type, rheology, density, viscosity, and desired performance characteristics. The materials of construction vary based on the compatibility requirements of the pumped fluid. Our range comprises drum pumps in polypropylene, PVDF, Hastelloy C, aluminium, 316 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel sanitary grade.
