Shurgard Self-Storage at London City Aiport

Jacksons was commissioned to implement a comprehensive security solution, including automated gates and fencing, for the Shurgard Self-Storage facility at London City Airport, the largest of its kind in the UK.

Winning an award for its design, the facility spans five floors and boasts 1,350 storage units of varying sizes. Its strategic location, just a five-minute drive from the airport, demanded a robust automated entry system, given its extensive parking areas and ground-floor unit accessibility.

To meet stringent security requirements, Jacksons installed Sentry® vertical bar fencing topped with Security Comb, enhancing security while maintaining a visually discreet deterrent. This choice was driven by Sentry's ability to establish a clear perimeter boundary and deter unauthorised access effectively, making it suitable for medium to high-risk sites. It is an excellent choice for commercial premises as it can be customised with a number of other fence spikes and toppings and has a design that reduces the risk of vandalism with its concealed panel-to-post connectors. In addition, its presence is not overly threatening, making customers feel at ease.

For seamless integration, a large 7-metre wide cantilever Sentry automated gate was installed at the main entrance, complementing the design and functionality of the matching fencing. Equipped with essential safety features such as safety photocells and manual release mechanisms, the electric sliding gates prioritise safety without compromising on efficiency.

Access control was facilitated through keypad entry, ensuring that only authorised individuals with access codes could enter while maintaining an audit trail of access. Additionally, to minimise pedestrian proximity to the automated gate, single leaf Barbican Imperial pedestrian gates with mesh were strategically placed for access from the pavement outside the main reception area.
In essence, Jacksons' comprehensive security solution provides a seamless blend of functionality, safety, and aesthetics, enhancing the overall security posture of the Shurgard Self-Storage facility while prioritising the convenience and safety of its users.
