Tecbond 214B − The world’s first certified biodegradable hot melt stick, for packaging production
More and more businesses are looking to improve the sustainability of their products, to meet the demands of consumers who want more environmentally responsible solutions.
This is particularly prevalent in the packaging industry, with a big move away from plastics toward paper based solutions. Typically paper based products will need adhesives to be used in their production, so this needs to be considered.Even though it is a relatively small component of the overall packaging, the adhesive is critical and has generally been based on synthetic polymers, which are effectively plastics, so do not breakdown in the environment in the same way as paper materials.
Development of biodegradable synthetic adhesives has been ongoing for some time, but now, Tecbond 214B has arrived which is the world’s first certified biodegradable shaped hot melt adhesive.
Available in all shaped stick formats (12mm sticks, 15mm sticks and 43mm slugs), Tecbond 214B is designed to biodegrade in the presence of oxygen, UV light and heat. Because it is based on a well proven product, Tecbond 214, Tecbond 214B retains all the benefits of Tecbond 214 whilst breaking down after use. It does not require any special equipment to use it and can be used with all Tec glue guns, such as the Tec 806 shown above.
- Biodegradable packaging hot melt adhesive for use on cardboard & paper
- Starts to degrade when exposed to oxygen, UV light and heat
- Great molten tack, with fast setting speed
- Non-toxic, formulated using 44% bio-based materials (ASTM D6866 certified)
Certified to ASTM D6400, EM13432, ASTM D6954 and ASTM D6866 standards, Tecbond 214B has been rigorously tested to ensure it retains the same adhesive properties as Tecbond 214 while being fully biodegradable.
