Spark Proof Switches
Why do we need spark proof switches?
It is not unusual for a small spark to be seen inside a switch when it is turned on and off. The spark occurs when electricity jumps between the contacts as they pull away from each other. For appliances that use flammable gases or operate within hazardous environments, a spark can cause the ignitable gases, vapours or dust to explode. Subsequently, considerable thought must be given to the type of switch used in these applications. For the switch products we supply at Alan Butcher Components, applications can include:- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Chilled drinks dispensers and vending machines
- Cooling cabinets for medical or laboratory applications
- Machinery within grain stores (excessive levels of dust)
