A variety of certified NSHEVs enable multi-zone smoke control systems

Storage King Heathrow is a new self-storage facility in Hounslow, located minutes from Heathrow Airport.

D+H UK provided multiple smoke ventilation systems across the storage facility.

Smoke control panels operate numerous Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators (NSHEVs), proving smoke ventilation to the stairwells and corridors:

+ Four staircases vented at roof level

+ Five stair lobbies vented through a natural smoke shaft, outlet at roof level

+ Four stair lobbies vented through the facade via low profile aluminium louvres

Call point units are located throughout the building, enabling manual triggering if required.

+ NSHEVs tested & certified to EN12101-2
+ Shaft Dampers tested & certified to EN12101-8
+ Geometric free areas in accordance with Approved Document B

Systems are triggered manually from the call point units or via signals from the fire alarm.

In the event of a trigger within a lobby, the louvre / damper on the fire floor will open, along with the vent at the head of the staircase / shaft.


All remaining louvres & dampers will be locked out in the closed position, allowing for smoke to be drawn up and out of the affected area.
