Meet the All-New Wybone Apollo Wheelie Bin Housing
Who Knew Bins Could Be Aesthetic Too?
Let’s be honest − bins may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of ‘style’, however, here at Wybone we know it is very important for many of the councils we have worked with before. Following the great success of our Mega Cycle Wheelie Bin Housing, we decided to raise the bar. Enter the Apollo series − the latest addition to our wide range of innovative, sustainable, and highly practical wheelie bin housings and hubs. The Apollo Large Wheelie Bin Housing isn’t just a product; it’s a step ahead in innovation, and we’re thrilled to say that South Lanarkshire Council thought so too, partnering with us to roll out these sleek bin housings across their historic county.
It All Started with a Tender
We won the tender to manufacture bin housings for South Lanarkshire Council in February this year, and their brief was to:
Supply and deliver 18 bin housings to manage large quantities of communal waste.
Design something robust yet stylish that could stand the test of time.
Challenge accepted! We set out to design a solution that stood ahead of their expectations.
A Fresh Take on a Winning Formula
Our previous version, Mega Cycle Wheelie Bin Housing, involved a complex manufacturing process that uses three different techniques: rolling, digibending, and welding. In contrast, the Apollo series has a simpler design allowing them to be stacked in modular formation regardless of the number of bins in the hub. This design also enables us to produce more units while enhancing efficiency and sustainability which aligns perfectly with Wybone’s Carbon Net Zero Policy 2024/25. These design improvements also mean production costs have significantly decreased, enabling the council to maximise the budget they originally proposed and have twice as many Apollo Bin Housing units as they originally budgeted for.
What Makes the Apollo Series So Special?
Durable Design, Modern Look
Built with a steel frame, the Apollo comes with two options:
Galvanised steel front panels for a sleek, industrial look.
FSC-certified Iroko hardwood for a natural, contemporary aesthetic.
Custom Artwork Options
These units, like most of our bin housings, offer the option to have bespoke artwork installed, which South Lanarkshire Council also chose to include. Previously, Glasgow City Council also had custom artwork created for their MEGA/CYCLE units, featuring iconic landmarks from the city. Such artwork not only enhances the overall aesthetics of the housings but also helps the hubs blend in with their surroundings.
Reinforced Security
Each unit features:
Tough, durable front-opening steel door with a strengthening cross-brace
Self-locking mechanism and stainless steel rod hinge to stop unwanted entry
Sized to Fit Your Needs
Whether you need a compact unit for a small area or a larger hub for heavy-duty waste disposal, the Apollo series has you covered. This large unit comes in 500, 660, 770 and 1280 litre sizes. The 1280-litre unit is designed to hold both a 1,280-litre bin and a 1,100-litre bin too.
Why Choose the Apollo Large Wheelie Bin Housing?
Goodbye, ugly bins: The Apollo is a stylish house for wheelie bins, keeping them out of sight and out of mind.
Pedestrian-friendly: Designed for high-capacity waste disposal, it’s ideal for public spaces.
Built to last: With top-quality materials and thoughtful design, it’s made to endure harsh weather conditions in the UK.
Sustainable choice: Innovation with a smaller environmental footprint.
The Apollo series is proof that even wheelie bins can make a statement. So next time you’re in South Lanarkshire, keep an eye out for one of the 36 housings divided across 12 different hubs in a county.
Whether it’s tidying up the streets of South Lanarkshire, or adding a touch of flair to your local council’s waste management strategy, these modular bin housings are ready to shine. Are you too?
