Web Security - why you should use https://
At a time when every organisation must pay more attention the security of the personal data they hold, updating your Website to a secure https:// address is an essential action to take now.
More and more sites have adopted this as a minimum standard to suggest their audience and regulators that they take their online security seriously. Indeed, since the introduction of GDPR, SSL Certificate Registrations have risen massively, particularly in the regulated sector.A https:// Web address requires an SSL Certificate which comprises a series of small digital files that bind a cryptographic key to an organization's details. When installed on your Website and server, it activates the padlock icon in the browser address bar and the https:// protocol to initiate a secure session with browsers. Once a secure connection is established, all Web visitors to your Website and any interaction and email enquiries from it will be secure. When a certificate is installed on your Website, the application protocol displayed as http:// will upgrade to https:// to indicate that your Website and Domain can prove its authenticity and has gone through a validation process to prove that it is genuine. Google likes sites with a https:// prefix and will give each extra brownie points and a higher ranking. Google sees the https:// symbol as proof you are taking Website security seriously and will prefer your site to one with a standard http:// address.
The Bureau is recommending that all clients purchase an SSL Certificate to raise their online credibility and data protection position in front of their clients, suppliers, ICO and FCA regulators, whilst earning another few brownie points at Google and Bing. The process of applying for an SSL Certificate and https:// address status is very straightforward. We will submit your company name and registered address, telephone, email and main contact name to our SSL Certificate Issuer.
They will record your details and issue the SSL Certificate. They may contact you at your email address to verify you are actually who you say you are. Once confirmed, an SSL Certificate will be issued which we will embed into your Website, after which your Website will display https:// and a padlock icon to show-off your SSL Certificate for visitors to view. All Website visitor interaction on your Website from this point onwards will be encrypted and secure.
