Empowering Women in the Workplace: Chantele Denniss’ Story – Renco Nets

International Women’s Day is a time to recognize the contributions of women across all industries, including manufacturing, where female representation remains low. At Renco Nets, we want to take this opportunity to celebrate our General Manager, Chantele Denniss – the only woman in our team and a key figure in the business.

Chantele’s Journey at Renco Nets

In a close-knit team like this, every individual plays a vital role in the company’s success – but Chantele is at the heart of it. She oversees the daily running of the business, from managing the office, warehouse, and factory floor to handling budgets, expenditures, stock control, and employee management. Chantele has been an integral part of Renco Nets since 2012, initially joining the company to oversee accounts, payroll, and general administration. As a small business, adaptability is key, and Chantele quickly took on a wide range of responsibilities.

“Being a small company, you have to wear many hats,” she explains. “I eventually did everything from making tea to running the business when the (then) Manager was away.”

Over the years, Chantele became one of the few people who not only understood the intricacies of netting production but also had the skills to manage the business effectively. So, when the previous Manager stepped down to begin his well-earned retirement, it was a natural transition for Chantele to take over the running of the company.

Celebrating Women in Manufacturing

Manufacturing and engineering have long been male-dominated industries, with women making up a significantly smaller percentage of the workforce. While progress has been made, gender diversity in these fields remains a challenge, with fewer women entering and advancing in technical and leadership roles.

At Renco Nets, we recognise the importance of creating an inclusive environment where talent and dedication define success.

Q&A with Chantele – What We Want to Know

Have you faced any challenges as the only woman in the workplace? If so, how have you overcome them?

“When I requested to take my forklift licence, I was laughed at and told that females didn’t drive forklifts, I should stick to the office. That only made me more determined to prove them wrong. I passed, obviously!”

“I do notice that people sometimes speak to me in ways they wouldn’t if I were male. There are still a few lingering ‘dinosaur’ attitudes, but I don’t let them hold me back.”

What do you enjoy most about your role at Renco Nets?

“We’re a small team, and I love being part of it. I’m the one shaping the future of the company, ensuring its longevity – just as the director and manager did before me. I want Renco to still be thriving in 20 years, with someone else at the helm when the time comes.”

“Unless you’re involved in the play and leisure industry, Renco is one of the best-kept secrets. People don’t realise how much skill and craftsmanship goes into the nets and ropes they see everywhere; from play centres to sports facilities. I take pride in knowing we’re one of the leading names in this industry, quietly ensuring safety and quality behind the scenes.”

If you could give one piece of advice to young women starting their careers, what would it be?

“If someone says you can’t, then absolutely do. Take every opportunity that comes your way. Even if you doubt yourself, chances are you can do it.”

“Most importantly, always make sure you can support yourself. Build a career that allows you to rely on yourself first and foremost.”

Building an Inclusive Future in Manufacturing

At Renco Nets, we are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where success is defined by talent and dedication, not gender. While manufacturing remains a male-dominated industry, greater representation is key to driving change.

Encouraging more women to enter the field starts with visibility. By sharing Chantele’s journey, we hope to inspire others to consider careers in manufacturing. Her leadership and dedication are invaluable to Renco Nets, and we appreciate everything she does to keep the business running smoothly.
