Maximise Efficiency: Optimise Cooling and Achieve PUE Goals with Aisle Containment Solutions!

In the fast-paced world of Data Centres, efficiency is not just a goal; it is a necessity.

The increase in demand for processing power necessitates advanced cooling solutions that can maintain high performance while minimising energy usage. Aisle Containment Systems offer an innovative approach to meet this challenge by optimising airflow and dramatically improving thermal management. By physically isolating aisles, these systems create a controlled environment for cooling, allowing for more efficient cooling strategies that boost performance and contribute significantly to achieving desired Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) targets.

PUE serves as a critical metric that Data Centre Managers use to gauge the energy efficiency of their facilities. It offers a simple yet powerful way to understand how effectively a Data Centre uses its energy resources.

EDP specialises in designing, manufacturing, and installing custom Aisle Containment Systems for retrofit, new build, and hyperscale Data Centre projects. With multiple locations in the UK, Netherlands, and USA, EDP offers global support to its clients.

What is Aisle Containment?
By physically segregating hot and cold aisles with Aisle Containment, you prevent hot exhaust air from mixing with the cold air used to cool the IT equipment. By doing so you: help reduce PUE, lower operating costs through improved efficiency, improve reliability and efficiency of server performance, reduce thermal stress on equipment, potentially extending life span and create a predictable thermal environment. There are two main types:

•    Cold Aisle Containment (CAC) where the cold aisle gets enclosed with roof panels, infill panels and doors at the end of rack rows. The result fills the cold aisle with conditioned air to effectively cool the servers and other IT equipment.
•    Hot Aisle Containment (HAC) which involves enclosing the hot aisle. Like CAC, doors and infill panels are utilised, but instead of a roof, vertical panels are attached to the top of the racks to construct a “chimney”. This enables the return of hot exhaust air into the return plenum and back to the CRAC units to cool the air.

Bespoke Aisle Containment Solutions
EDP Aisle Containment Systems can be configured as floor-supported or suspended, with modular designs that allow customers to scale up as needed. Bespoke designs allow us to accommodate awkward spaces, obstacles, differing rack heights and allow for future rack expansion. With a robust construction that features smooth glide, self-closing synchronised sliding doors. Customisable components such as drop away (FM approved) roof systems, sliding HAC access panels, modular and adjustable infill panels, and supplementary lighting. EDP delivers a scalable and modular solution for projects of any size.
