Dover’s Maison Dieu Restoration
Introduction - Dover’s Maison Dieu, a 13th-century Grade I listed building, underwent a £10.5 million restoration to revive its Victorian neo-Gothic features and introduce modern amenities.
The project aimed to safeguard its heritage while future-proofing the space for community use.
We were selected to supply and install custom curtain systems that would respect the building’s character while delivering long-term performance.
Solution
We supplied and installed ten pairs of curtains, complete with patinated bronze tracks, tailored to the architectural nuances of the space.
The chosen fabric—a sustainable wool—offered excellent insulation, acoustic benefits and moisture regulation, making it ideal for a historic environment.
As wool is naturally vulnerable to moth damage—especially in heritage settings where fluctuating humidity and organic materials are present—the fabric was specially treated to deter moths without compromising the wool’s eco-friendly credentials.
Care was taken to ensure the curtains complemented features such as the Stone Hall’s 19th-century stained-glass windows.
Our installation helped enhance the building’s usability without compromising its historic integrity.
