Nicholson a step ahead

Nicholson Group has completed a structural steel mezzanine floor within a retail premises to allow further stockholding for the footwear specialist.

Step Outlet is a rapidly expanding private company, with an increasingly high profile in the e commerce mail order market. To allow for this expansion Step Outlet chose Nicholson to find a solution to their storage problems to service both the retail and mail order business.

Having previously installed a mezzanine floor in the stockroom Nicholson now developed the solution of utilising an area above the main sales floor. The cantilevered design allows for minimum restriction of columns and gives a modern high tech appearance. The immediate problem was that no time could be allowed for the installation during normal working hours and materials could not be stored external to the building.

Commencing installation after shop hours at 6.00pm Nicholson completed the main structural installation in 2 nights, without interruption to normal trading. The store was open for trading at 9.00am both mornings.
A fire rated suspended ceiling was installed below the floor with specialist LED lights to give high visibility lighting to the sales area. A new gas fired warm air heating system was also incorporated within the contract.

The staircase to the 1st floor was designed to be built within the staff counter/cash desk to prevent access by customers. An adjustable shelving system has also been supplied and installed on the 1st floor to optimise the stock storage and accessibility.
