Standard Precast Concrete Headwalls
The Althon standard range of headwalls can accommodate pipework up 2100mm. We can precast multiple pipe openings into our outfalls if required. As standard we will cast in the pipe openings 100-150mm above the spillway. However we are able to cast in the opening for the connecting pipe or pipes anywhere on the backwall or in the wingwalls (sidewalls). Drainage pipes discharging into open watercourses should be fitted with a concrete headwalls. Althon's standard concrete headwalls are fast and easy to install.
Sewers for Adoption (SFA) Headwalls
Althon Sewers for Adoption precast headwalls should be used when part of a Section 104 Agreement and the sewers are to be adopted once completed by the local Water Company. The materials used and installation must comply with the ‘Sewers for Adoption’ guidelines. Althon precast concrete outfalls offer a cost effective alternative to in-situ structures for connecting pipework discharging into open watercourses.
Rectangular Sewers for Adoption (RSFA) Concrete Headwalls
Althon Rectangular Precast Headwalls are Sewers for Adoption compliant precast concrete headwalls for outfalls discharging into ponds, swales, ditches beaches and rivers. RSFA precast headwalls come with the option of two thicknesses of toe, 300mm and 500mm, each of which is available in three depths. Althon manufacture RSFA precast headwalls with three different wall profiles to suit the gradient of the bank as follows 1 : 1 slope, 1 : 2 slope and 1 : 3 slope. RSFA precast concrete headwalls are typically supplied complete with Kee Klamp® Handrail to the back wall and horizontal sections of the wing walls, a galvanised steel access ladder and a self-closing gate with padlock facility above.
Angled Precast Headwalls
Angled precast headwalls allow pipework entering a watercourse at an angle to be accommodated or for an outfall to be situated on a bend in a river. Please see below details of our range of angled precast concrete headwalls.
We cast the openings in our headwalls to suit your pipe diameter and material. We will also set the invert level of the pipe into the concrete headwall to your specification if required. We can also cast in multiple pipe openings if required.

Althon offer a large range of rectangular precast concrete headwalls for pipework discharging into ponds, swales ditches, rivers and tidal environments. Our rectangular headwalls are available in a range of backwall widths and heights for pipework up to 750mm.
Openings in our rectangular concrete headwalls are cast to suit the pipe material and diameter being used on site. We can also cast the opening to a specified invert level if required. Our rectangular precast headwalls can be factory fitted with a range of accessories such as flap valves, penstocks, Kee Klamp® handrails as well as trash screens and outfall safety grilles.

Our precast headwalls for box culverts offer a cost effective alternative to in-situ structures for connecting pipework discharging into open watercourses. All drainage pipes discharging into open watercourses, such as swales, ditches, ponds and rivers, should be fitted with an appropriate Althon Headwall. Althon Headwall units can be pre-fitted with a range of accessories such as flap valves, penstocks, kee klamp handrails and a selection of gratings dependant on application.

Althon precast headwalls can be supplied to site with factory fitted penstocks. As standard we offer penstocks fitted to our headwalls to suit pipework from 100 up to 1500mm. When required we can offer bespoke sized penstocks or headwalls to accommodate penstocks.
Splayed Wing Wall Headwalls
Althon SP ‘Splayed Wing Wall Headwalls’ are precast headwalls produced with a higher wing walls at the front of the apron. SP precast headwalls are for inlets or outlets situated in locations with high or steep embankments or where the structure is required to provide protection to an accessory such as a flap valve, duck bill valve, stop logs or weir wall. Althon SP precast concrete headwalls offer a cost effective alternative to in-situ structures for connecting pipework discharging into open watercourses.
There are four sizes of SP headwall available catering for pipe sizes up to and including 1800mm. Each SP precast concrete headwall comes four back wall heights offering wing wall profiles to suit most applications.

SFA Headwalls with Precast Steps
Althon offer precast concrete Sewers for Adoption compliant headwalls complete with precast concrete steps. Typically our precast headwalls with steps will be supplied with an appropriate Sewers for Adoption compliant outfall safety grille and galvanised steel Kee Klamp® handrailing with gated access.

Swale Inlet Headwall Range
Althon swale and pond inlet headwalls up to 300mm are fibre reinforced precast concrete open inlets allowing surface water runoff to enter SUDS features, or to act as an outlet or overflow. The profile of the inlet 1:3 (18 Degrees) is the same as the surrounding ground in accordance with guidelines for the construction and adoption of swales and ponds. There is a recess formed in either side to key the unit into the slope of the swale or pond and prevent it slipping.
Bespoke Headwalls
Althon design and manufacture bespoke concrete Headwalls to suit site specific circumstances. These can either be sectional structures where the Headwall detailed is very large or one piece units. Bespoke precast Headwalls offer a cost effective alternative to in-situ structures when one of our standard range of headwalls will not be suitable. As with our standard Headwall range our bespoke headwalls can accommodate gratings, flap valves, trash screens and other security or flow control devices as well as health and safety essentials such as handrails, walkways and step ladder.
Penstocks
Althon offer a range of HDPE and stainless steel penstocks for the control and isolation of water. Penstocks can be mounted directly to an existing flat surface, factory fitted to a precast headwall or concrete penstock chamber or fixed in-line with an existing pipe run negating the requirement for a manhole
Outside of our standard range of penstock valves as detailed below, Althon can assist with the design and supply of penstocks to suit square openings, non-standard size pipe openings and can supply penstocks to suit operating pressures dictated by site requirements

Flap Valves
Althon manufacture and distribute flap valves in HDPE, cast iron and stainless steel. Flap valves are a type of non-return valve (NRV) used to prevent flooding and to stop water back-flowing up pipework connecting into ponds, ditches, swales, rivers and marine or tidal environments.
Our range of flap valves includes wall mounted flap valves, tidal flap valves, flange mounted flap valves as well as push fit and pipe mounted flap valves. As standard our HDPE flap valves have a 50 year design life. Althon HDPE flap valves can be manufactured to suit site specific installation requirements and operating water pressures.
We are able to design and manufacture bespoke flap valves for square, rectangular or elliptical openings or provide additionally reinforced ballast flap valves for when the valve is subject to wave action.
Our range of flap valves includes wall mounted flap valves, tidal flap valves, flange mounted flap valves as well as push fit and pipe mounted flap valves. Wastop Inline Non Return Valves
Wastop valves are inline backflow and flood prevention valves. WaStop inline non return valves (NRV) are made up of either a stainless steel grade 304 or 316 incorporating a cone-shaped chloroprene membrane. The membrane allows flow to pass in the desired direction but when backflow occurs the membrane fills out and seals the pipe.
Hand Stop Gate
Althon PHA-G HDPE Hand stop gates are a simple manually operated valve for small dimension openings and low pressures. Our handstop gates are design to isolate and control the flow of water discharging from pipes or to manage water levels. Manufactured in HDPE with an EPDM Seal the Hand Stop gate is available to suit 150, 200, 250, 300, 400 & 500mm Dia. openings. Above this size Penstocks are a better option because of the weight.
Safety Chains
Althon produce Sewers for Adoption specification manhole pipe safety chains and Highways specification pipe safety chains. Our pipe safety chain sets are available in galvanised and stainless steel. Manhole pipe safety chain sets are supplied with fixings and chemical anchors. The chain is cut to size to suit the pipe diameter being used.
Stoplogs
Althon Stop Logs are Lightweight, Corrosion Resistant Stop Logs for the Isolation and Containment of Water. Althon Stop Logs are suitable for Isolation Duties and Environments where Standard Single Piece Stop Gates would be too heavy to lift or where Multiple Door Sections are called for. Althon Stop Logs use the latest Materials combined with Aluminum or Stainless Steel to provide a range of Stop Logs suitable for use in most Water Sewage and Effluent Treatment situations.
Orifice Plates
Althon supply orifice plates in galvanised or stainless steel to restrict and regulate the flow of water. We manufacture orifice plates to suit all pipe sizes and provide the opening in the plate to your specified dimension and position required. We typically provide flat orifice plates to bolt directly onto a flat surface or wall. We will send out all necessary fixing materials and an EPDM seal with every orifice plate. We can also manufacture curved orifice plates to fit in various diameter manhole chambers.
High Capacity Drainage Channel
The Althon High Capacity Channel Drainage System is a glass reinforced concrete (GRC) channel drainage system available in a range of widths from 150mm to 600mm. We offer a selection of lid units for use in residential, car park through to heavy industrial drainage applications.
Rectangular Channel Headwalls
Althon offer a range of headwalls with channel extensions for pipework up to 750mm. Precast channel extensions are available in sections for you to build up to a required length. Channel headwalls and extension pieces can be factory fitted with gratings, Kee Klamp handrails & walkways and all manner of flow control devices
