Silicon Photodiodes Electron/XUV, UV, Vis, NIR
ODC was established in 1981 to develop and produce world-leading high power NIR LEDs. They entered the silicon photodiode market in 2003 and in mid-2004 completed an investment of over 1 million Dollars covering dedicated Class 1000 cleanroom and state-of-the-art photolithography and wafer fabrication facilities.
In 2011 ODC completed the acquisition of International Radiation Detectors, world-leaders in extreme UV and direct electron detection silicon photodiodes.
In 2014 Opto Diode moved the short distance from Newbury Park to Camarillo, taking over a larger facility which was re-equipped with the latest equipment and greatly expanded cleanroom space.
Silicon photodiodes are semiconductors that generate a current or voltage when illuminated by light. They have no internal gain, but can operate with much greater dynamic range than other types of photon detectors.
ODC’s engineering staff have more than 50 years' experience in the design and manufacture of silicon photodiodes and use this to full effect to offer standard and custom detector solutions with high quality, cost-effective pricing and very quick turnaround. ODC welcomes the opportunity to design a custom solution to meet your exact needs.
Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs)
> Low operating voltage
> Tightly controlled breakdown/operating voltage uniformity - ±125mV per reel
> Low temperature dependence of breakdown voltage - 22mV/°C
> Immunity to magnetic fields
> MRI compatible packaging
> MSL1
> Small size whilst mechanically and optically robust with no damage from high-light levels
> Multi-channel arrays can be made with fine pitch resolutions not possible in vacuum PMTs
> Evaluation kit comprising readout board, preamplifier, bias source & SiPM mounted to pin-adapter PCB
> OEM modules comprising SiPM, power supply, bias control and preamplifier
Data Acquisition Systems SiPM Interface Boards
In a typical application the user-supplied sensor is plugged into a Vertilon sensor interface board (SIB) mounted to the user's optical bench. The outputs from the SIB connect using a SIB cable to a Vertilon PhotoniQ multi-channel data acquisition system.
Alternatively, Vertilon's PhotoniQ expandable systems allow the user to connect up to 8 single element devices directly to the front panel of the unit.
Data from optical events is captured and processed by the PhotoniQ which outputs the resulting event data over a USB 2.0 interface to a PC.
Triggering modes include continuous and edge-triggered event capture as well as more sophisticated modes such as event driven and pre-triggering.
Two user-selectable data acquisition modes are optimized for data collection of random events as in particle analysis applications, and continuous events as in scanned imaging applications. User-defined discrimination functions can be employed to reduce the data set to contain only the events of interest.
The standard graphical user interface and USB drivers supplied with the PhotoniQ are used to view events in real time or log them to disk. Alternatively, the GUI can be bypassed entirely such that the event data can be fed directly to a user's custom application.
Lead-Salt IR Detectors Thermal IR Emitters
Lead Sulfide detectors are sensitive from 1µm to 3.1µm whilst Lead Selenide covers the range 1µm to 5µm.
A range of uncooled and cooled single channel detectors are offered in both materials - the "A-Series" (PbS) and "B-Series" (PbSe).
PbSe 4-channel detectors are offered in uncooled and cooled versions under the "MCD-Series" with the option of integrated optical filters allowing simultaneous measurement of multiple materials and gases such as CO, CO2 and various hydrocarbons. The 4 detectors are a single semiconductor chip enabling accurate placement and uniform characteristics while the integrated spectral filters are mounted in holders designed to minimise optical crosstalk between detector channels.
ODC's "CalSource" thermal infrared sources are offered in Steady State "SA-Series" and High Output Low Cost Steady State "SHA-Series" based on a coiled filament design. ODC also supply ultra-thin metallic foil Pulsable emitters "SVF-Series" and the Fast Pulsable "SPF-Series". To ease integration of their fast pulsable IR sources Opto Diode also offer the PIREPLUS high output IR emitter with integrated drive electronics.
Laser Diodes & Modules Ultraviolet, Visible & NIR
FiboTEC Fiberoptics offer single− and multi-channel Single-Frequency Laser Diode systems which combine 1529-1561nm very long coherence length External Cavity Laser Diodes drive and temperature control electronics and, where required, an EDFA.
For industrial applications FiboTEC produce turnkey solutions utilising high power laser diodes in combination with high modulation speed electronics and fibre management such as fibre-arrays.
LDX Optronics offer high power single emitter multimode laser diodes at standard wavelengths of 808, 940 and 980nm as well as “esoteric” wavelengths from 622 to 1800nm. In many instances, where LDX do not already have the wavelength required they can develop bespoke diodes to meet customers’ requirements.
QD Laser have developed a range of Quantum Dot and Quantum Well singlemode laser diodes aimed at Optical Communications, Industrial and Display applications.
Light Emitting Diodes Ultraviolet, Visible & NIR
For convenience we have divided the range into UV, Visible and Near Infrared.
A large proportion of our LED business comes from customer-specific solutions optimised for individual applications. Optimisation can be anything from a simple tightening of the wavelength tolerance on a standard device through to a multi-wavelength solution with custom packaging, optics driver and monitoring electronics.
If you can't find the LED solution you are looking for please contact APT to discuss your application!

Fibreoptic Instruments- Broadband ASE Sources
Fibreoptic ASE sources are typically higher power than fibre-coupled broadband semiconductor sources with lower Relative Intensity Noise (RIN) and strong incoherence−making them the ideal source for test and measurement applications.
FiboLUX ASE sources offer exceptional Power Density in terms on dBm per nm, typically -12dBm/nm with higher figures available, gain-flattened designs are also available.
Standard products include C-, L- and C+L-Band Erbium doped sources. FiboTEC can also supply systems using alternate doped fibres.
FiboLUX instruments are available in Benchtop format with integrated power suppliers and digital display and as OEM modules for integration into the customer’s system.
