The Astell 250 - 1,200 Litre Double Door SQUARE Autoclave Range
The 250 - 1,200 litre Double Door SQUARE Autoclave Range is ideal for high-containment type (BSL-3/4) facilities or where a specific area or 'clean room' are in operation, as the sterilized load can 'pass through' the autoclave to be removed in to this environment.
The Double Door SQUARE range is highly customisable and capable of sterilizing almost anything (additional options may be required) with a range of different chamber sizes available.

Astell 33 - 63 Litre Benchtop Autoclave Range
The ‘Autofill’ version has an integral reservoir. Once filled, this provides water for up to 15 cycles, and also acts as a collection vessel for condensate and the water that is automatically returned from the chamber at the end of each cycle.
The ‘Classic’ version requires manual water-fill and during the cycle condensate leaves the vessel via a silicone tube that can be connected to a heat-resistant bottle.

Effluent Decontamination Systems
The Astell Batch Effluent Decontamination System
One of the most commonly used methods, the Astell EDS system consists of two or more tanks, working on a run-standby system. When the first tank has reached a preset level, sterilization will begin and the second tank will switch to collecting any further waste. Upon sterilization completion, the first tank is emptied and will sit idle until tank 2 is full and begins sterilization. In this way, collection of effluent is not delayed whilst sterilization is being performed in one of the tanks.
Effluent types vary for each project, but typically treatable effluent sources will include:
- Tap water from sinks and wash basins
- Water from washroom facilities within a containment area
- Sanitary installations such as toilets
- Water from showers and other cleaning facilities in the containment area
- Any exhaust/water from sterilizers used within the Category 3 area

The Astell Nelldorn Glass Dryer
An economical and efficient method of drying and storing most containers, glassware and plasticware.
A large volume of air is drawn over the thermostatically controlled heating elements and forced through each drying tube. This rapid flow of warm air dries glass or plastic quickly without harm. The process uses a minimum of electricity (typically less than 2 units) and is therefore considerably cheaper than oven type dryers. They have a space saving stepped design which allows for easy removal of any item and an economic operation fitted with 60 stain resistant nylon drying tubes.
Tubes are rigid enough to hold position yet resilient to avoid damage to items being dried. The unit has an adjustable timer which will automatically switch off the dryer after the pre-set time from 0-120 minutes. Rocker switches control two independent 1kw cut-outs. The tangential fan blower unit is designed to give quiet, trouble free running.

The Astell Hearson Tobacco Oven
The Hearson Tobacco Oven has been designed to meet the stringent requirements of the industry for moisture testing. The oven provides a continuous flow of pre-heated air which passes over tared sample pans for drying purposes.
The unit comprises a cylindrical drying chamber in which is placed a stand carrying 12 circular copper trays; each tray is designed to take six stainless steel sample pans (TKE186). The top of the drying chamber is enclosed by a hinged insulated lid. In the centre of the chamber is an air distribution tube through which pre-heated air passes over the pans to facilitate the drying process.
The drying chamber is enclosed in a second, larger chamber providing a combined water reservoir and steam boiler in which is housed a copper coil. An immersion heater maintains the water at boiling point. Surplus steam is discharged from the top of this chamber to an air cooled condenser, with the condensate returning by gravity to the reservoir, thus sustaining the water level.
An electrical blower at the base of the oven passes air through the heated copper coil; it then enters the drying chamber through the air distribution tube. After passing over the sample pans, the air escapes to atmosphere via the vent provided in the centre of the lid. The oven is controlled using fused on/off switches for both the heater and air blower. An ammeter is fitted above each switch to indicate the combined load. Air flow through the drying chamber is regulated by a valve and measured by a rotameter calibrated over the range 2 to 20 litres/min.

The Astell 33 - 63 Litre Closed Door Drying Autoclave Range
The Astell Scientific range of 'Closed Door Drying' benchtop autoclaves are designed to offer convenience and flexibility in the sterilization of wrapped and unwrapped instruments.
Suitable for use in Dental and Veterinary clinics, these units offer sterilization for instruments and glassware with the added benefit of hot air drying. This type of autoclave is also sometimes referred to as a 'Class S autoclave' or 'Type S autoclave'.
Instruments for sterilization could include wrapped and unwrapped metal surgical instruments, unwrapped glassware and pouched hand tools.
N.B. It is recommended only medical accessories such as sterilization wraps, pouches, chemical indicators, and biological indicators are used with this autoclave.
Astell’s Closed Door Drying benchtop autoclave range is available in three sizes and is totally self-contained. These units require no plumbing, and only a standard single phase power supply. They are compliant with BS EN 13060:2014; ISO 9001:2015;
PED 2014/68/EU; ANSI/AAMI ST55:2010 standard; FDA 510(k) approved; and are manufactured to the principles of Medical Devices Directive (93/42/EEC).
This range of 'vacuum-less drying' steam sterilizers include Astell's 'Ecofill' water management system and are one of the most energy efficient autoclaves available. The pressure vessel design ensures the absolute minimum amount of water is used during a sterilization cycle, which not only means comparably low power consumption, but also very quick heating and cooling.

Loading access is through a sliding door meaning the unit requires less operational floor space than a hinged door unit. The door can be specified with manual operation, or automatic when combined with the air compressor option or an external air supply. The circular section sliding door range of autoclaves has a broad selection of options, many of which are unavailable on smaller capacity ranges, meaning its possible to sterilize a variety of loads.
